Health Equity: Breaking Barriers in Asthma

There is strong evidence that the high burden of asthma among Black people is mostly due to where this population tends to live.

Black people are … three times more likely to die from asthma than white people. And when you factor in sex, Black females have the highest death rates in the U.S. due to asthma.

About 50% of people with asthma in childhood go on to continue to have adult asthma. If we can identify these kids at a younger age, we can prevent that lifelong disease progression.

Diversity in clinical trials is critical to ensure treatments are safe and effective for the people who are most likely to use them. It also boosts confidence in using these treatments.
